It really happened...
I can scarcely believe it.
I've only been in command of Moon-base Alpha for a couple of days. A series of unfortunate events has caused a chain reaction at both of the radioactive waste disposal sites. The resulting explosion has knocked the moon out of Earth's orbit, causing us to break away from our planet. I just read the previous sentence, and I keep having to run my eyes over it again. I'm a practical man. I'm also a realist. I don't honestly see how any of my crew can deal with this for long. The moon has already drifted out of Earth's communication's range, and the only vehicle capable of reaching us was destroyed during the accident. I can only imagine how the moon's absence will affect our home. It's entirely possible we're the lucky ones.
I'm frustrated, not only with the helplessness of the situation, but also because I can't very well make known what I'm feeling to the crew. They're going to rely on me now more than ever. An example has to be set. They'll need a pillar of strength; somebody willing to keep his or her chin raised in defiance if and when the situation gets worse. The only way they'll endure what's happening is if somebody sets an example for them to follow.
Who else is will take the job if not me?
We haven't stopped drifting. Victor calculates the moon will leave our solar system within a matter of days.
We have everything necessary to keep a community going, and the ability to produce more when necessary. Our only concern is what lay in wait ahead of us.
I haven't left the office for several hours now. Who knows what they'll report to me when I step outside that door?
I guess it's time I find out.
Keep the chin up John.
